On February 5th I enjoyed giving a children's art talk at the Children's Resource Center of the New Orleans Public Library on Napoleon Ave, shown in the top right photo. Artist Bruce Davenport invited Alma Bryan Powell and me to exhibit in his annual group show called “The Good Stuff”. A photo we took with him is in the lower right. It was rewarding talking to the children about my art and inspirations. I talked about the drawings from my Ghana series I'm standing in front of in the left photo. I asked them where they had been and if traveling inspired them. They seemed to enjoy talking about their travels.
Additionally, my art is now on display ongoing at the Second Story Co-op Gallery in the Healing Center on 2372 St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans, LA.

Not wanting to create art purely in a vacuum, but also wanting to convey my unique visions, as I wrote about in Creating from Our Own Unique Visions, I expect a special balance in my art process. In my January 2014 monthly newsletter I asked the readers to choose which artwork of these four they would like a free postcard of: From left to right: "Alma at Tea", "Mama Jen", "Frances Gaudet (Color)", "Holding Mustard Greens" @ Artwork Copyrighted by Amy Bryan 2013 The majority who answered chose the last one, "Holding Mustard Greens". What resonates most about this one? During August 2013, I began to explore color in the Ukiyoe iPad app.
I'm happy to currently be participating in Global Print 2013 in Portugal thanks to Curator, Nuno Canelas.
If everything goes as planned, during this time next month I will be living in Accra, Ghana, West Africa and teaching Art Foundations (Design & Color, Drawing, and Art History) at the Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design. It was previously called the Vogue Style School of Fashion and Design, when it exclusively offered a certificate program in Fashion Design. It has now expanded to include Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees in Fashion Design and Entrepreneurship and later it will include degrees in Graphic Design.
Many of you know that Ghana, Africa has inspired most of my drawings, paintings, prints, iPad art, and masks since my weeklong trip there in August 2009. A large part of my inspiration is related to fashion in Ghana. Who would have thought I would teach at a fashion school in Ghana? I will only fully believe it when I get there. So, I'll update you to tell you if I am there this time next month. I plan to keep a blog about my experiences in Ghana. It is amazing how much kente cloth inspires pride for African Americans, but we rarely know or discuss where it comes from. Education and sharing, through my experiences in this very important country, will be the purpose of my blog.
Lynn says in the video below that my painting, "Woman Standing" below, transcends location. Although it is inspired by a photo of a woman at a marketplace near Kumasi, Ghana, it could be a woman from New Orleans. Video was taken on July 5, 2013
