Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!

I have not been in touch since 2019. 2020 and 2021 seemed like one year because the COVID-19 pandemic led to quarantines and canceled or altered events during both years.

Because of the change in lifestyle during the pandemic, I developed a renewed interest in photography focused on wildlife, particularly birds and butterflies. In the process I learned about so many different types. In the early days of the pandemic we hardly left home and our only normalcy was being in nature. The birds seemed to continue life as usual when our lives had changed.

I took photographs of birds and butterflies by my house, at family's homes, at parks, on neural grounds, etc. I became interested in protecting birds and biodiversity. According to Britannica, "Biodiversity is the variety of life found in a place on Earth or, often, the total variety of life on Earth."

Here are some photos I took of birds. Let me know if you would like more information about any of them.

Somehow I have gradually begun to focus on drawings again in addition to photos. Here are some drawings I did in 2021. I still draw portraits of people like the ones below also. I consider my bird drawings and paintings portraits too.

The monk parakeets below stand out because they are very attractive and green. Their sound is not melodic, though.

Both the hummingbird below and the woodpecker below it enjoy the trumpet vine flowers.

The cedar waxwing on the left below and the blue jays on the right below have strikingly bright colors. The blue jays stick around all year and the cedar waxwings come when it gets cooler here in New Orleans.
