"Blessed Frances Gaudet" Frances Joseph Gaudet was an African American prison reformer, missionary, and seamstress. She was instrumental in starting the Juvenile Court in Louisiana and founded Gaudet School for Black Youth in 1902. She was born in Holmesville, Pike County, Mississippi, in 1861.
She is now venerated as a Saint in the Episcopal Church.

Alma Powell and I are exhibiting paintings in the lobby of the Poydras Center from February 1st through the 28th.

The exhibit is on the first floor lobby at 650 Poydras St., New Orleans, LA, 70130. It is free and open to the public 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. I hope you can make it.---Amy

Amy Bryan's work is inspired by a trip to Ghana during the summer of 2009. On a five-hour bus ride to from Accra to Kumasi, she took photos of marketplace scenes, landscapes, and houses. The colors, patterns, and icons she saw on the bus ride inspired “The Ghana Series”. She was amazed by how those visual elements were also woven into the everyday culture and scenes of Kumasi.

Family photos inspire Alma Powell's current work. They are simple and static like still life, but include the human figure. She likes to document the different stages of her children and family members in her paintings.
